Purchasing heavy equipment is a necessary part of the construction business, but the steep asking prices on just one crane, dump truck, excavator, skid steer, loader, tractor, or any number of heavy equipment pieces that business will use in its daily operation could easily finance an entire home construction project. Any time one of employees points out that need new machinery, cringe, right? Then it’s time to take out the accounting books and see how can afford new construction equipment.
Need a crane? Be prepared to spend around $250,000 or more for a brand new crane model. How about an excavator? It’s relatively cheaper at around $25,000-50,000. A brand new skid steer costs around $25,000. Buy a new dump truck and could easily be spending hundreds of thousands—if not millions—for a really big heavy dump truck.
That’s why buying used machinery can save company so much. A used crane can cost as little as $75,000. A used excavator can cost $17,000. What about a used skid steer? An asking price of $10,000 or even $6000 for a used skid steer is not unheard of. Used trucks start at as little as $3500. Depending on the size of the used dump truck have in mind, company could pay only $2500. Since a dump truck tire alone can cost $40,000 if the heavy dump truck is big enough, it might be more economical to replace the entire dump truck than replace the tires!
How do find prices like these and better on used heavy equipment? By searching for a reputable third-party used heavy construction equipment classifieds website to act as mediator between buyers and sellers.
If looking to buy used heavy equipment or any other kind of used machinery, try a reputable online classified website will find classifieds for used heavy trucks, used excavators, used skid steers, heavy loaders, heavy tractors, cranes, and many used heavy construction equipment pieces. Search for used heavy equipment by manufacturer and machine type.
Many of the used construction equipment prices are negotiable, so could easily get a deal on a used excavator, used skid steer, used dump truck, or any other piece of used heavy construction equipment for far less than the prices listed. Don’t see the used heavy equipment you’re looking for? Place a Want Ad with a description of the used construction equipment want and price range!
Purchasing heavy equipment, even used heavy equipment, can consume a large amount of funds. When heavy dump trucks, cranes, or any other heavy equipment is on the fritz, some construction companies might just need to borrow some heavy equipment for a short time while their heavy equipment is being fixed.New heavy construction equipment can cost so much of construction company’s funds that even the best jobs can turn little profit.

After languishing in a hole for three years, the U.S. heavy construction equipment sector finally is digging its way out.
Caterpillar Inc. reported last week that retail sales at its North American machine dealers rose 19% in the three months ended in November, its biggest rise in several year.Deere & Co. reported a 22% gain in its fiscal fourth-quarter sales of construction and forestry equipment. Its heavy construction equipment sales in November rose more than that.
“The long wait appears to be over,” a Chicago-based market researcher and consultant and publisher of the monthly newsletter Machinery Outlook.Analysts cite replacement demand from the owners of aging construction equipment as well as federal tax changes designed to spur equipment purchases.
A pickup in the U.S. economy has helped.Next year also could get a boost from a highway spending bill pending in Congress. The industry still has a long way to go before it recovers from the downturn. Manfredi estimates that retail unit sales dropped about 40% from their peak in late 1999 through 2002.
The industry got off on the wrong foot this year, with retail unit sales dropping 5.2% through April as the U.S. went to war in Iraq.Industrywide, sales turned positive in May and have gained momentum since then, according to data issued by the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
For the year through November, retail unit sales of heavy construction equipment rose 8.8% industrywide. As late as the third quarter, makers of heavy construction equipment had been expecting 2003 sales to be down slightly.Replacement demand has been strong, especially from equipment rental companies, which now account for about one-third of the market.A lot of contractors are faced with having to do major repairs or buy new equipment.

Heavy machineries are those equipments, which are concerned with large projects. These equipments help to carry out those works that would have been very dangerous and strenuous to perform without big machinery. With the hype of technology taking the world by sweeps, heavy machinery tends to be really efficient and outlast past models. Not only are there durable models but technically sound models that do a perfect job for you.
Heavy machinery should not be operated without the assistance of a licensed controller. They will have special knowledge concerning the running and maintenance of the heavy machinery so that there are no unnecessary accidents or disasters. Even the heavy machinery operators keep the construction sites safe by taking proper care of the heavy machinery. However, rented heavy machinery in affordable prices is also offered for carrying out required constructions.
Types of heavy machinery
Heavy machinery is always used for large scale manufacturing and construction work. The range of machineries include tractors, wheel loaders, track hoes, backhoes, payloaders, dozers, graders, dump trucks, excavators, logging equipments, skidders, skid steers, fellabunchers, freightliner trucks, log loaders, setout trucks, tractor trailers, slashers, low boy trailers, drop deck trailers, flat bed trailers, woodstar Harvester and others.
Almost all the heavy machineries have several parts like blades, backhoes, axle, heads, starters, hoods, radiators, engines, hoses, valves, multiple tanks, bud wheels, seals, clutches, pressure plates, steel frames, chrome bumper, heated mirrors, chrome exhaust, air horns and front/back seats.
Benefits of heavy machinery
The heavy machineries are very advantageous for people using it. Equipped with different modern parts, the machineries can do real fast work. They are durable and flexible. The flexibility in heavy machineries do not mean that they can be transferred from one place to another, but it means that they can used for multiple purposes at the same time. While the small machineries are often lightweight, the heavy machineries are quite heavy and should be installed at a proper place for efficient working systems.
Safety of heavy machinery
The heavy machineries perform a variety of tasks: construction, light transportation of building materials, small demolitions, digging holes, breaking asphalt, paving roads and powering building equipments. But the main thing in using heavy machinery is the safety factor. The heavy machineries should be operated by people who are well conversed in machinery parts and their functions. They should know about the dangers associated and the ways to avoid such situations. Others using the heavy machineries should be aware of different uses of the equipments.
Once you know more about the uses of the different heavy machineries you will be able to use them better and yield efficient results.

The construction equipment auctions got its massive demand and popularity in last several years. It has become one of the place that is more ease of reach and more attractive to buy construction equipment at a very reasonable prices. In today’s hot business of construction equipments, the costs of the new construction equipments are higher, making it a big problem for the contractors. The construction equipment auctions are one of the fastest and profitable methods to clear up construction equipments. Either New or used construction equipments get sold out, at these auctions but the terms and conditions may vary according to the market conditions.
Bargains are the main feature of the construction equipment auctions; in that case the auctions pave way for the lowest price for the equipments. One good pro with these auctions is that the through these auctions the buyers are given with a huge variety of equipments and a large number of producers and manufacturers. The auction takes place with the highest bidder and not the price. The construction equipment auctions are done for both the heavy and light equipments. Bulldozers, scrapers, well drilling machinery, generators, canes, earth moving equipments and much more come under the heavy construction equipments. These are auctioned at just a fraction of the cost when got from the showrooms.
May have decided to get a construction equipment from a construction equipment auction, but never forget to consider the transporting cost of the machinery do also include the cost of the machinery that you need to invest on. There are various reasons behind, why most of the buyers are interested with the auction buying of these equipments? And why these auctions are gaining good recognition among those buyers and sellers of the construction equipment.
One main reason is that the term called “Economy”. When thought enough on buying the construction equipment at a good reasonable price it is best to opt for a price that will get you through auction that is the bargained cost. This is because you may be buying the construction equipment for your construction business or may just plan on to get a job done. Since saving a pocketful of bucks should benefit as in the long run of business, by providing with sufficient resources to make bigger business and buy other source of equipments.
Next reason would be the variety they provide on with. Construction equipment auctions are known for their offer of widespread collection of equipment. In these auctions, all brands and types of tools and machinery are available to the buyers. Which the buyer cannot get even from a licensed dealers and products manufacturers, as they may limit on the options to the equipment only to their line carries. Next to talk on the convenient purchase and economy they give on the construction equipment auction.

Scale model construction equipment is a sample copy or a representation model of an object and is usually smaller than the original size. Sometimes it can also be larger but mostly it is also available in the size of a scale known as scale model.
The Scale model construction equipment helps us and guides us in the construction of full size object. The models are made by amateur model makers also known as Hobbyists who make varieties of die-cast models, remote control vehicles, injection molded, model ships, model bikes, model planes, model railroads and even ships in bottles are available for amusement.
Scale model construction equipments are often created by professionals, for many reasons and various professions like for Engineers who wants to test its creditability and performance at an earlier stage before incurring the full cost. Any further development is done only after the approval of the scale model.
Scale model construction equipment are of great use to the architects who have to construct various design and implement innovative ideas in them to get the look of the final product which is easily accomplished by the scale model. These architectural models help them in their presentation and sell the new look before it is built.
Various scale model construction equipment also include the vehicles that are the representation or the sample of construction vehicles like crane, backhoe, excavator and concrete pump etc used in construction. These vehicles are constructed in 1:50 scale and the cranes extend to three to four feet at this measurement and if the limit is extended it would be unsuitable for table display.
The scale model construction equipment vehicles are also very popular in toy available in Germany and in US they have even spread out as promotional models used for construction by the manufacturer of the prototype real world equipment. There is a competitive market between Germany and some Chinese firms.

With one of the largest and most diverse equipment fleets to manage and maintain in New South Wales, reliability and productivity are key priorities when it comes to selecting new equipment.
Located in Sydney’s south, Sutherland Shire Council’s fleet of around 250 major items includes four CASE 590SR backhoes, four CASE 40XT skid steer loaders, 33 garbage trucks and 80 trucks ranging from 20 tonne prime movers to two tonne tippers. “We also maintain 80 fire vehicles for the Rural Fire Service and have a range of specialty equipment for maintaining our local beaches, parks and golf courses.
With such a large fleet to manage and maintain, the Council chooses new equipment under an extensive tendering process which includes evaluation of price, reliability, maintenance and safety. “We also involve our operators in the evaluation process. They’re the ones sitting in the cab all day, so it’s important that they feel confident with the machinery selected.”
In terms of OH&S, CASE equipment’s ergonomic design ensures ease of use and operator comfort. “The 590SR cab is comfortable, with good instrumentation and control placement plus all round visibility that allows the operator to safely concentrate on the job at hand.
The Council has been using CASE equipment for the past 10 years, with Ray also commenting that reliability, ease of operation and maintenance have stood out as key features over that time. On average, the council upgrades it backhoes every seven years averaging 650 hours per year and its skid steers every five years averaging 700 hours per year. “We put the machines to work constructing new footpaths, kerbs, gutters and driveways and cleaning gross pollutant traps and parkland areas.”
Maintenance is also simple and is done in-house by one of the council’s vehicle mechanics.Every three months the machines are serviced by workshop staff who go over them from top to bottom,.“We do everything from oil sampling, to determine when the oil needs changing, to a full book service. We also have our own parts store and keep high use items in stock all the time. However, we know that if we don’t have the part we need in stock our local CASE dealer, Conplant, will be able to deliver it quickly, enabling us to get the machine back on the job avoiding extensive downtime.”

Interested in saving money on a backhoe, crawler loader or skid steer loader? Sometimes, buying used construction equipment is a smart way to go. Other times, we’d be better off not buying anything at all. Here are a few ways we can make sure we get a good deal on used construction equipment.
Try used construction equipment yourself
We shouldn’t have to say it, but some buyers still make this mistake: don’t buy a piece of used equipment without trying it yourself. Don’t let your interest in a good deal get the better of your common sense. Even if the seller seems trustworthy, even if it’s a brand or model that has a stellar reliability record, even if we take a look at the vehicle and it looks good, there is no substitute for a thorough test drive.
A five minute jaunt around the parking lot isn’t going to cut it, either. Dig, dump, lift, scrape, push – whatever the equipment is supposed to do, put it through its paces.
Look carefully…
Go over the used equipment you’re investigating slowly and carefully. New paint jobs are relatively cheap and can cover up a lot of problems. Look for evidence of rust patching or cover-up – poke suspect areas with a tool to be sure. Check underneath the vehicle for evidence of leaks. Inspect hoses and valves before and after the test drive, so we easily spot fresh leaks.
… but use all your senses
When you’re testing out used construction equipment, don’t go by your eyes alone. Listen to the engine and the hydraulics as you’re testing it out – is the machine straining more than it should? After it’s been running for a while, are there any smells of burning oil or electrical problems? Do the controls feel as responsive as they should?
If possible, buy from established dealers
You’re much more likely to have problems if you buy

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) will be one of the biggest exhibitors at this year’s CONEXPO, occupying nearly 4,000 m2 (43,000 ft2) of space at the world’s largest construction equipment trade show in 2008.
Held between 11-15th March, one of the industry’s most anticipated new products at the show will be on display: the prototype Volvo Hybrid Wheel Loader. The ‘mild’ diesel-electric hybrid drive system fitted to a L220F wheel loader is the first iteration of Volvo’s ongoing development process – but its reduced levels of emissions and fuel consumption are impressive indicators of the potential environmental and economic benefits such hybrid systems offer.
Technical innovation will be joined by design innovation on the stand: Volvo designers have been tasked with imagining the articulated hauler of the year 2020 – the radical ‘Centaur’ concept design is the result.
Another highlight of Volvo’s participation at Conexpo will be the official unveiling to a global audience of the company’s new-look road machinery product range, now marketed in the Volvo corporate livery of yellow/grey and carrying the Volvo brand.
Under the theme of ‘More Care. Built In’, the indoor exhibition space N-2509 will be home to 28 of Volvo CE’s latest machines: including F-Series wheel loaders, C-Series excavators (including the new ECR models), Volvo PL-Series pipe layers and E-Series articulated haulers, featuring the revolutionary ‘Full-Suspension’ systems. The company will exhibit its growing compact concrete equipment product line in a 1,000 m2 (11,000 ft2) outdoor area (G-134) where a further 18 compact machines will be on display.
Machines will be arranged in application-specific clusters (such as quarrying or general construction); highlighting Volvo’s increasing customer segment focus and demonstrating how Volvo machines are designed to work as ‘systems’ rather than in isolation. Customer Support will be integrated into these ‘hard’ machine segments, with themed kiosks focusing on Volvo CE ‘soft’ products and services.
