Go four stroke
If you have been contemplating moving up to a four stroke motor think about the environs and safety as a selling point. When a two stroke dirt bike heads up a jump it is prone to explosive bursts of power because of its gasoline/oil mixing needs. A 4 stroke motor is a bit more sizeable and requires an oil pump to get everything lubed so the power ratios experienced are quite a bit smoother. Ultimately this gives the ground a bit of a rest because the tyres don’t throw quite as much dirt and the air takes a breather due to the fact that the power spikes are more efficient when you ask for the juice. From a safety point of view going with a four stroke makes the new or used motorcycle easier to handle as you manage the bike because your more sure that you’ll get the power you ask for and not the power that may show up unexpectedly.
Four stroke for the trails
The power management aspects of a four stroke engine will help the environment when you are on the trails as well. If you have a fairly good idea of what power you are going to get when you ask for it you can back off and then reestablish it as trail conditions permit. If, for instance, you see a good sized puddle on the trail you could go flying through it at full throttle (which might be fun but environmentally irresponsible) or you could back off a bit and ride around the edges at a responsible speed to reestablish a strong position where the trail is a bit firmer.
How much pressure
Think about how much pressure you are using in your tires as you hit the trails. What sort of soil or substrate are you going to be riding on that particular day? Just because they call them dirt bikes doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to be riding on dirt all day every day. Now does it? If you are heading out to the sand dunes consider your tire pressure before during and after you ride that day. Reducing the pressure for that day may make the riding better for that day, but what about the nest day when you head for a firmer substrate? If you don’t stay on top of where and when you are riding you will not only destroy your tires but spend more on gas and send more pollutants into the air.

Sure you want to look dope on the bike but safety is a good thing to. There is little use in looking good when you ride if the only person that is going to enjoy how you look is the ER nurse. When you pad up consider the materials that you are wearing. Polymer products do the job for joints and head nicely but they are after all oil based products. Heck, just about everything is a polymer base these days, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to always use it for safety protection. First, stick with the head gear that works, don’t skimp here or anywhere for that matter. When to look around and think, however, is in the ballistic and extremity areas. Here, think about spun fibers and what they offer instead of going for the hard polymer choice. These products are flexible and can give the protection you need if the right choices are made. The environment will thank you with one karma point.

Try to detect any kind weird smells like burning oil or electrical short circuits. When you get behind the wheel or the levers, try to feel if the controls work as they should. However, you should keep in mind one thing: even the new heavy equipment may be faulty at times, which is why you should be prepared to face all problems that may arise with your used machinery, and not just assume the problem was caused by the fact that the machinery was old.

The frames of the past were very heavy because solid steel bars were needed to support the weight of the steel engine, as well as the weight of all other components of the motorcycle. It was found that the leather belt drives of the steam powered engines not only slipped but did not last very long. These leather belts were coupled directly to the rear wheel which was a direct drive from the engine.
This two wheel contraption was designed to make use of the old style bicycles. Some people tried to add power to the existing bicycles of the time but there were many failures. By adding power to the basic bike concept the motorcycle was born. The motorcycle made travel faster and required much less effort from the rider because you no longer had to peddle.
The stopping of the older motorcycle occurred the same way as stopping a bicycle with coaster type brakes which were located on the rear wheel hub. You applied the brakes by applying backward pressure on the pedals just as you do with a normal bicycle.
There are many different types available on the market these days. The touring motorcycle is larger bigger and heavy and comes with attached luggage cases for a long trips. The sport touring motorcycle are not as large and have less luggage cases but have better handling capability.

Dual-sport motorcycles have large knobby tires, excellent suspension, and they can go anywhere a street bike can go as well. There bonus is they can also go most places off road that a dirt bike would go. These bikes are street legal so you get the best of both worlds.
Off-road motorcycles have adjustable suspensions, big knobby tires, and can climb like a mountain goat on trails. Their excellent suspension allows you to literally fly over small hills and bumps. However, these motorcycles are not allowed on the public road as they do not have headlights or turn singles.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found out in a study basing on the fatalities between the years 2002 to 2005 that design changes especially in sport utility vehicles can really help in reducing death caused by road accidents. They were also able to find out that design changes have contributed to almost 30 percent drop in overall fatality rates when compared to the mid-1990s.
According to government statistics, every year more than 40,000 people are killed in United States due traffic accidents. The 2001 F-150 of Ford although one of America’s best-selling truck was also the worst performer in a certain front crash test for its class. But now the Insurance group was very pleased to announce that F-150 crash worthiness has been improved by Ford immensely by making the occupant compartment better able to withstand impact forces.
The group also noted a remarkable decline in death rates when it tested the redesigned 2004 F-150 model. The previous F-150 model has recorded 118 deaths per million vehicles sold during the survey period compared to the 50 reported deaths for the updated version of the F-150. These figures show the great improvement in the safety features of Ford F-150.
Despite the findings citing an improvement on Ford’s F-150 truck, the automaker still choose to reject the conclusion about the F-150 as well as the survey’s overall findings. Ford also refuses to discuss the changes made on the F-150. Ford in a statement said, “We don’t believe the study provides a complete and accurate reflection of relative vehicle safety performance.”
Ford also added that the insurance institute did not consider factors such as seat belt use, alcohol consumption, and driving experience in their survey, which the automaker believes are important factors to take into account when it comes to auto fatalities as cited by the federal safety officials.
The surveys being conducted by the safety group on crash tests and fatality rates are backed by big insurance companies as their way of pressuring automakers to improve the safeness of their vehicles. However let us not forget that despite the fact that it is the primary responsibility of automakers to provide their buyers with safe vehicles but as car/new or used truck owners we also have the same accountability when it comes to our safeness.

The insurance group’s survey has included seven SUV models in its list of vehicles with the lowest fatality rates or with fewer than 20 driver deaths per million vehicles. Unfortunately there was no US automaker included only Japanese and European manufacturers.

Through the years, car manufacturers have been developing high performance classic cars for sale to add to their lineup. These are given different badges to indicate that these are designed for high speeds and can even perform well on race tracks. Volvo is one of these car makers which offer a high performance version of their standard models. In Volvo’s case, they assigned an R for these high performance track and road cars. Sadly though, Volvo announced that they will no longer be producing these astounding R cars.
Volvo’s stint in the high performance specially-badged vehicle market started in 1995 and that has been12 years ago. The R first came into being with the 850 T-5R. Just like any Volvo during that time, the first R car is boxy but it offers a high power output thus making it faster than any Volvo during that time. The first R car provides a high performance that Volvo even entered the 850 T-5R in the British Touring Car Championship. While the said R car did not achieve to get the championship at the BTCC, it marks the start of Volvo’s reputation of being capable of producing track-worthy vehicles.
In 1998, the Volvo S40 R driven by Rickard Rydell won the cup cementing Volvo’s car name as one of Europe’s top car brands.
But before the S40 R’s win, the 850 R came into being. It followed the 850 T-5R as the second Volvo R car. The 850 R is made more aerodynamic than its predecessor and was made even faster. Other models which have been offered with the R badge include the Volvo S60 and the Volvo V70.
While the engines of these vehicles are smaller than the competition, Volvo made use of turbocharging to increase the power output of their R cars. For example, the current S60 and the V70 are equipped with smaller engines compared to BMW’s M3 or Audi’s car but with the high-pressure turbocharger it is equipped with produces 300 horsepower.
