Vintage and classic cars have always occupied a special place in everyone’s heart. Vintage cars are not only a show of class, but also a passion of some enthusiasts who like to collect and preserve them as treasures.
India saw its first car in the year 1898 and within 12 years several thousand models poured in, which were driven by our Maharajas, Princes, Industrialists, and Philanthropists in the country. India does have a large number of vintage cars, which use to belong to Rajas, Maharajas, and Nawabs. To maintain their charm and to popularize them, vintage car rallies are held in various cities in India from time to time drawing fairly large crowds.
Honorary secretary of the Vintage and Classic Cars Club of India, which is an association of 150 vintage car owners, “We get at least one request a week for cars.” There is so much demand for these cars that people do not mind spending ridiculous amounts of money for special occasions like films, wedding, hospitality, and so on. Vintage cars can be more expensive than modern-day styles. For instance, if a Mercedes E-Class rental cost Rs 10,000 a day, then a Rolls Royce would cost anywhere between Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 a day. A Cadillac or a Buick can cost up to Rs 15,000 a day, while an Austin can be hired for between Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000.
According to experts, the total number of vintage cars available in India is close to 3,000 and valued at Rs 350 Crore. India’s big-wig vintage car collectors include Pranlal Bhogilal of Ahmedabad, Sharad Shanghi of Indore, and UB group chairman Vijay Mallya. Together these three own more than 350 vintage and classic cars inclusive of some rare models like the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost and Mercedes 540 K, each with a current price estimation of Rs 1 Crore.
Vintage is definitely turning Modern!

After languishing in a hole for three years, the U.S. heavy construction equipment sector finally is digging its way out.
Caterpillar Inc. reported last week that retail sales at its North American machine dealers rose 19% in the three months ended in November, its biggest rise in several year.Deere & Co. reported a 22% gain in its fiscal fourth-quarter sales of construction and forestry equipment. Its heavy construction equipment sales in November rose more than that.
“The long wait appears to be over,” a Chicago-based market researcher and consultant and publisher of the monthly newsletter Machinery Outlook.Analysts cite replacement demand from the owners of aging construction equipment as well as federal tax changes designed to spur equipment purchases.
A pickup in the U.S. economy has helped.Next year also could get a boost from a highway spending bill pending in Congress. The industry still has a long way to go before it recovers from the downturn. Manfredi estimates that retail unit sales dropped about 40% from their peak in late 1999 through 2002.
The industry got off on the wrong foot this year, with retail unit sales dropping 5.2% through April as the U.S. went to war in Iraq.Industrywide, sales turned positive in May and have gained momentum since then, according to data issued by the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
For the year through November, retail unit sales of heavy construction equipment rose 8.8% industrywide. As late as the third quarter, makers of heavy construction equipment had been expecting 2003 sales to be down slightly.Replacement demand has been strong, especially from equipment rental companies, which now account for about one-third of the market.A lot of contractors are faced with having to do major repairs or buy new equipment.

Mini motorcycles are also known as pocket motorcycles. They have 25 or 50 cc engines and can run at a speed of 20 – 30 miles per hour. They weigh about 50 pounds and stand at a foot and a half high. They can be powered by oil, gas or electric engines and look exactly like a real motorcycle except they are smaller in size. The snazziest models cost thousands of dollars and come from Italy. Cheaper versions are produced in China, and cost from $200 to $500.
Young and old people are attracted to mini motorcycles. They are great for college students and retired seniors to get around town. They are supposed to be used on closed racetracks, private roads or places where three are no public laws prohibiting their use. The less congested the area where a mini motorcycle is driven, the better. There are too many accidents involving mini motorcycles and cars, trucks and vans. The driver doesn’t stand a chance. Accidents occur because larger vehicles don’t see the mini motorcycle because of its low height.
Many people like to use mini motorcycles nowadays as they are cheaper than a normal sized motorcycle, and they are more fuel-efficient. However, if children ride these mini motorcycles, it is advised for them to wear helmets. This is because every year, the main cause of children’s accidents comes from riding these types of vehicles. Both bodily and brain damage occurs when a child falls from a mini motorcycle. This is why there is a rule that a child must be at least 16 years of age to ride a motorized mini motorcycle.
